Privacy Policy

Last updated August 13, 2026. Written to be read, not just filed.

The short version. Memory Palace has no accounts and no servers storing your content. Your photos and palaces stay on your device. The only thing that leaves your phone is the short text you type when you ask the assistant for a memory hint — and that's sent to an AI provider only to answer you.

Who this is from

Memory Palace ("the app", "we") is made by an independent developer. This policy explains what the app does and doesn't do with your information. Questions? Email khang.d.d.nguyen@gmail.com.

Information stored on your device

Everything you create in Memory Palace is stored locally on your phone using the operating system's standard storage. This includes:

  • Photos you choose or take to use as a memory palace.
  • The words, notes, and pins you place on those photos.
  • Your review history and spaced-repetition progress.
  • App settings and preferences.

We do not have a copy of any of this. It is not backed up to us and we cannot see it. If you delete the app, this data is removed from your device.

Information sent to our AI assistant

When — and only when — you ask the assistant to suggest a memorable image or association for something you're learning, the app sends the relevant text (for example the word or knowledge you entered and the name of the palace route) to our processing service, which forwards it to our AI provider (Anthropic's Claude) to generate a suggestion that is returned to you.

To keep costs fair and prevent abuse, the app generates a random device identifier and sends it with these requests so usage limits can be counted. This identifier is a random string; it is not your name, email, Apple ID, or advertising ID, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

  • Your photos are never sent to the assistant or anywhere else. Only text is used to generate associations.
  • We don't attach your identity to these requests, because the app doesn't know it.
  • Our AI provider processes the text to return a response. Please see Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle data they receive as a processor.

Purchases

Memory Palace offers optional subscriptions and a one-time purchase. These are handled entirely by the App Store. We never see or receive your card number or billing details — the store confirms your purchase status to the app. Refunds and billing are managed by Apple.

Analytics

The app itself contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. This website (the pages you're reading now) uses privacy-friendly, cookieless aggregate analytics to count visits; it does not identify you or follow you across other sites.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
  • We don't show you ads or use advertising trackers.
  • We don't require an account, email, or phone number.
  • We don't access your contacts, location, or microphone.

Children

Memory Palace is a general-audience study tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Because your content lives on your device, you're in direct control: edit or delete any palace at any time, or remove everything by deleting the app. If you have questions about data handled by our AI provider, or any request under laws such as GDPR or CCPA, email us and we'll help.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect in a new version of the app.
